Dr. sc. agr. Ludger Eltrop is an environmental and systems engineer with a diploma and a dissertation in natural sciences. He has been head of the department "System Analysis and Renewable Energies" at the Institute of Energy Economics and Rational Energy Use at the University of Stuttgart since 2003 and visiting professor at the University of Johannesburg since 2011.
He teaches and researches in the fields of energy technology and energy economics with a special focus on renewable energies. His particular expertise lies in the systemic and integrated analysis of renewable energies with a focus on bioenergy and solar energy. Since 1994, he has been involved in a variety of consulting and research projects in Germany, Europe and developing and transition countries worldwide. Among others, he was project manager of the EnerKey project in South Africa and the SolarMining project in Chile. He is currently working intensively on developing perspectives for bioenergy beyond the period of EEG subsidies.
Keynote: The role of biogas in the bioeconomy
The presentation covers the bioeconomy concept as a combination of processes around biomass provision and use, and the central focal point that biogas plants may have for this integrative role.

Dr. Samir Kumar Khanal is Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Dept. of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). Dr. Khanal obtained Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus in Environmental Biotechnology from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong in 2002 and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand in 1997. Dr. Khanal was post-doctoral research associate and Research Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Dept. at Iowa State University. Dr. Khanal’s research focuses on anaerobic digestion, bioenergy, waste-to-resources, removal of pharmaceutical compounds and environmental biotechnology. Dr. Khanal is an Associate Editor of Bioresource Technology. Dr. Khanal was the recipient of Board of Regent’s Medal for Excellence in Research (2018) from the UH system, and CTAHR Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research (2016). Dr. Khanal is professional engineer in the State of Iowa.
Keynote: Anaerobic biorefinery: some perspectives
Dr. Stephanie Lansing is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland. She leads the Bioenergy and Bioprocessing Technology Lab, researching anaerobic digestion, waste to energy, antimicrobial resistance, microbial electrolysis cells, nanotechnology, gasification, nutrient management and capture, and modeling. She has 20 years of experience in on-farm energy research, outreach education, and economic/sustainability analyses of waste to energy systems. She has written numerous Extension FactSheets, published more than 70 peer-reviewed and trade journal articles, and has given over 150 presentations on her sustainable energy work. She has coordinated numerous workshops to illustrate to farmers, government officials, businesses, and policy makers how digesters can process their waste into energy. She received a national Mentor of the Year award from the Compact for Faculty Diversity at the 21st Institute on Teaching and Mentoring for her efforts in mentoring diverse student and Extension audiences. She has taught classes in Renewable Energy; Ecological Design; Data Analytics in the Food, Energy, and Water Nexus; and Antimicrobial Resistance and Its Role in One Health, and has over $15 million in research funds from national and international funding agencies.
Since 07/ 2005 Assistant managerial head and permanent researcher at the State Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioenergy. In 2005 he awarded PhD Degree in Agricultural Science and in 2018 received a postdoctoral qualification in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Hohenheim. He is leading several fundamental research projects in the field Optimization of biogas plant operation and design and is the scientific head of the full-scale research biogas plant on Unterer Lindenhof. Further working on research field of Biological hydrogen methanation and Combination of fermentative and bio-electrochemical systems in one process. Up to now, he published reviewed scientific articles with total citations number of 1003 by 695 documents (h-index: 20). He holds also three patents in AD technology. 2003 - 2005 Before his scientific career he was employed as a process engineer at several biogas plants construction companies leading the construction of biogas plants between 75 and 500 kW. His activities are mainly focused on the two-stage anaerobic digestion system and optimization of the biological methanation process.
Experience 38 years in biogas systems, sanitation, sewage and faecal sludge, bioenergy power, biofuel, key-expertise ecological sanitation & waste-to-values. Studied 1975-1980 Thermal and Energy Engineering, become 1981 a German Pioneer in the design of Constructed Wetlands and Dry Biogas Fermentation plants.
1982-2011 he worked as long-term resident Biogas-, Sanitation- and Organic Product Marketing - Adviser on behalf of the German International Development Cooperation GIZ in China, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Bolivia, and Lesotho.
In parallel during the last 30 years he undertook many short term assignments for several UN-agencies, GIZ, Development Banks, private companies, and NGOs, supporting partners in Algeria, Afghanistan, Brazil, Botswana, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, DPR Korea, DR Congo, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Korean Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mali, Malawi, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Singapore, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Timor Este, Tunisia, Turkey, Venezuela, and Zambia in the development of biogas and/ or sanitation programs and projects.
Since 2008, Mr. Mang became Guest-Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) and Technical Manager of the Centre for Sustainable Environmental Sanitation (CSES). Since 2016, on behalf of the German-Chinese UPM company - as partner of USTB-CSES, he guides in Jordan, Lebanon, and Bangladesh, Technical Assistance activities to Grantees of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Humanitarian Emergency Response Team.
Keynote: Co-Digestion of faecal and septic sludge with sorted organic wastes - in China, Bangladesh and Burkina Faso
Since 2011 Claudia Maurer is a senior researcher at the University of Stuttgart and since 2014 she is head of the group Biological Processes in the Circular Economy at the Chair of Waste Management and Emissions at the Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management. She worked as researcher and project coordinator in international and national interdisciplinary projects with focus in the field of technical applicability of processes in treatment of organic waste and biogas production, resource management as well as valorization of organic waste streams. Furthermore, she gives lectures at the University Stuttgart and is guest lecturer at the University of Kaiserslautern.
Raúl Muñoz obtained his Master degree in Chemical Engineering at Universidad de Valladolid (UVa, Spain) in 2001. Raúl Muñoz completed his Doctoral Thesis at the Dept. of Biotechnology of Lund University in June 2005. He joined the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at UVa in Nov 2005, which represented the consolidation of the biological gas treatment and microalgae-based wastewater treatment research lines at UVa.
In 2009, he carried out a 3-month research stay at UNSW (Australia) at the laboratory of Prof. Richard Stuetz, In 2013 and 2016, Raúl Muñoz also conducted 6 and 3-month research stays, respectively, at the Laboratory of Dr. Sergio Revah (UAM-Cuajimalpa, México), and in 2014 a 3-month research stay at Universidad de la Frontera (Chile). Today, Raúl Muñoz is Associate professor at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology of Valladolid University and member of the Institute of Sustainable Processes.
Raúl has published 194 papers in JCR scientific journals, 79 % of them within the Q1 of the JCR classification, and has co-authored 25 International Book Chapters. His publications have been cited 6396 times, with an H index of 45. He has supervised 17 PhD Thesis and 22 Master Thesis.
Finally, he has been Principal Investigator in 35 R&D projects and contracts, with a total budget of 5.485.894 € over the past 10 years.
He was member of the scientific committee of 36 international conferences, project evaluator in 10 countries.
Keynote: Potential and Limitations of Biological Biogas Upgrading Technology
Hans Oechsner is an agricultural Engineer. In the years 1987 to 1990 he worked on his doctorate about inactivation of pathogenic organisms in liquid manure by biological aerobic thermophilic processes. Since 1990, he is scientist at the State Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioenergy at the University of Hohenheim. Since 2004, he is director of this research and consulting institute, which is very well networked with agricultural practice. Besides, he is adjunct professor of the China Agricultural University, Beijing – National Center for International Research of BioEnergy Science and Technology and member of different Scientific Committees of national and international Congresses (f.e. VDI, IBBK, FNR, KTBL, Biogas Association, Renergie), head of the KTBL working community “Energy”, member of scientific working groups, Business manager of the “Consortium for Agricultural Engineering and Agrarian Construction Engineering ALB-Baden-Württemberg”. Guest Editor for different Special Issues. Hans Oechsner has published 63 scientific papers in JCR scientific journals and a few book chepters. He has published hundreds of consulting papers and application-oriented contributions for farmers and operators of biogas plants. Furthermore he gave hundreds of lectures at training events. He mainly works on research in the field of biogas production and questions of bioeconomy. In addition to biochemical measuring laboratories, his research equipment includes laboratory biogas fermenters for batch and continuous operation, pilot plants and a research biogas plant on a full scale, equipped with excellent measuring technology. He leads a number of national and international interdisciplinary research projects.

Excursion

The first plant is a farm scale biogas upgrading unit with a CNG filling station and the second plant is a hydrogen from biogas project at a sewage treatment plant. (Schedule subject to change)

Pruk Aggarangsi is Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
Director of Energy Research and Development Institute-Nakornping, Chiang Mai University and Assistance Professor in Mechanical Engineering Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
His expertise fields are:

- Numerical and finite element modeling, simulation and analysis.
- Robotic system design and mechanical vibration analysis
Dr. Nuri Azbar is full professor at Bioengeering Deparment and head of Center for Environmental Studies (EU-CEVMER) at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey. His areas of interest include environmental biotechnology, wastewater engineering, sustainable production, biofuels and biorefinery, organic waste valorization. He wrote more than 110 scientific papers and publications and is co-author and editor of several books. He is member of scientific committees in international conferences, project manager and project partner in national and international projects funded by EU, TUBITAK. He participated as member in different national and international organizations and committees and in advisory boards. Moreover, he has been the primary director of 20 research projects funded by national and international institutions.
Dr. DONG has spent 31 years in the education, research and technology extension on Bioenergy and Environment Science and Technology (BEST) since 1988. He is the PI for more than 20 research projects from the ministries of Science and Technology, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and some provinces and municipal cities. He leads the excellent research teams in both Beijing City and Shandong Province for BEST research with two professors, 14 associate professors and 39 postgraduates.
His research interests include: (1) organic waste to bioenergy and fertilizer, (2) biomass cookstoves testing and certification, (3) constructed wetlands for organic wastewater treatment, (4) environmental impacts and contributions assessment from bioenergy engineering, and (5) agricultural development in developing countries.
Professor DONG has close cooperation with industries and governmental agencies in this area. He is a member of the Scientist Group for biobased gaseous fuel in the Ministry of Science and Technology of China; a member of the Scientist Committee for biogas development in the Ministry of Agriculture, the team leader for animal wastewater treatment and Resourcelization and the team member for technical advisory for animal manure treatment and utilization in the same ministry; the technical advisory member for soil recovery of the Ministry of Ecological Environment Protection.
He has published more than 200 quality articles in international and domestic journals, and holds more than 20 patents. He won the second National Prize of Science and Technology Progress and MoA Second Prize.
Dr. DONG is very active for academic international collaborations with developed and developing countries. He has been the RAC (Research Advisory Council) member of German Bioenergy Research Center (DBFZ) since 2014, and becomes the international co-chair of RAC for the term of 2020-2024. He is ISO TC members of ISO 255 (biogas) and 285 (household stoves). He set up the Great Cycle platform for organic waste treatment and renewable resources recovery, and set up and has been the Chairman of Forum of Renewable Energy Promotion in Developing Countries (FREPDC) since 2001. More, He organized 15 training programs for 300 scientists and technicians from developing countries, the network for Chinese agricultural universities to support Africa in agricultural development (AfriCAU) and for a south-south sustainable stove experts group to promote the clean stove in developing countries (S4G) were created in 2005 and 2013 respectively.
Luís Ferreira, owns a PhD degree in Environmental Engineering since 2014. As a researcher developed his almost twenty years’ experience, in the New University of Lisbon, Technical University of Lisbon and Southern Jutland University in the scientific domain of biotechnological processes applied to organic waste fractions valorization and wastewater treatment, with a particular focus in anaerobic co- digestion for bioenergy production. He has several publications in international scientific conferences, scientific journals, contributions to two books chapters and he owns two national patents in the field of biogas production and organic waste pretreatment. He is regularly member of the scientific committees of international conferences or congresses in the topic of biogas production, water use in animal production and manure management. He has an editor experience on the 14 th Ramiran International Conference and an extensive experience as a reviewer in scientific journals. As a consultant, was responsible for implementing wastewater treatment processes and environmental audit projects in the agro-industry and animal husbandry sector. As an international consultant he was assigned with several projects from UNIDO for biogas development in Latin America. As a senior specialist of the Portuguese National Innovation Agency, SA, since 2011 has been supporting ANI in the area of eco-innovation and circular economy, in one hand coordinating the participation in EU projects, on the other, doing technical support to innovation policy development environmentally driven. As an expert he combined extensive experience of auditing research & development activities undertaken by companies, in particular in the scientific domains related with environmental technologies and eco- design.
Chemical engineer from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and Dr.-Ing. in biotechnology and bioengineering of wastewater at Karlsruhe University (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Germany. Actually he is senior researcher at the Institute of Engineering at the National University of Mexico. He is author or co-author of over 140 papers in indexed journals, congresses, conferences and symposia, and of more than 80 research reports for sponsors. Since 1990 he regularly teaches biological wastewater treatment at UNAM. From 2006 to 2009 he was member of the Water Science and Technology Board of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States. Since 2009 he is associate editor of the journal Water Science and Technology. In 2012 he was named IWA Fellow.
Jens Bo Holm-Nielsen is an extended expert in Biogas development projects and Biorefinery concepts. Some of the main focuses besides the biotechnology knowledge and know how is the environmental and agricultural and food concerns. How the recycle nutrients replacing chemical fertilizers, how to minimize greenhouse gasses like CO2 and CH4 among others, how to restore clean water environments and last but not least to reduce pathogen spreading in the environment.

PhD in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering by Montanuniversität Leoben Austria (2002), undergraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (1992). He is currently a professor/research at UNIVATES and coordinator of bioreactors Laboratory. He has large experience in Environmental Engineering, mainly with the following topics: biogas, bioreactors, renewable energy, solid waste, composting and environmental sanitation.
With a masters degree as an Agricultural Biologist and as a trained farmer Michael is professionally involved in Biogas and Bioenergy Technology for more than 25 years.
His portfolio ranges from professional services as scientist and farmer in USA and South Africa, adult education, to being a founding member and CEO (1992 – 2000) in Europes biggest biogas association, the German Biogas Association.
Michael is a biogas technology and policy specialist with a broad expertise in the design and planning of decentralized agricultural and industrial biogas and bioenergy applications. Since 2000 he is consultant, senior expert, as well as managing director of the International Biogas and Bioenergy Center of Competence (IBBK Fachgruppe Biogas GmbH) and board member of the German Biogas and Bioenergy Society, GERBIO/FnBB e.V.. The main focus of his work is consulting and training work in the field of small scale decentralized biogas technology, plant oil for energy production, wood gas (gasification, pyrolysis) and ecological sanitation in a regional, national and international context. Current project locations are in Germany, Great Britain, Turkey, China, North- and South-America (Canada, Mexico, Chile).
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Kranert, University of Stuttgart, is full professor, director and board member of the Institute of Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management and Chairholder of Waste Management and Emissions since October 2002 and director of the interfacultative study programme environmental engineering. From 2011 to 2013 he was Dean of the faculty of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Main focus in research are biological systems and technologies in solid waste management (composting, anaerobic digestion), food waste (waste prevention, statistics, quantities, qualities), solid waste management models and strategies, waste analyses and emissions from waste treatment plants. He wrote more than 400 scientific papers and publications and is co-author and editor of several books. He is organizer, co-organizer and member of scientific committees in national and international conferences, project manager and project partner in national and international projects funded by EU, BMBF, DBU, AIF and other public industrial and private institutions, member in different national and international organizations, committees and in advisory boards.
Dr. Stephanie Lansing is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology at the University of Maryland. She leads the Bioenergy and Bioprocessing Technology Lab, researching anaerobic digestion, waste to energy, antimicrobial resistance, microbial electrolysis cells, nanotechnology, gasification, nutrient management and capture, and modeling. She has 20 years of experience in on-farm energy research, outreach education, and economic/sustainability analyses of waste to energy systems. She has written numerous Extension FactSheets, published more than 70 peer-reviewed and trade journal articles, and has given over 150 presentations on her sustainable energy work. She has coordinated numerous workshops to illustrate to farmers, government officials, businesses, and policy makers how digesters can process their waste into energy. She received a national Mentor of the Year award from the Compact for Faculty Diversity at the 21st Institute on Teaching and Mentoring for her efforts in mentoring diverse student and Extension audiences. She has taught classes in Renewable Energy; Ecological Design; Data Analytics in the Food, Energy, and Water Nexus; and Antimicrobial Resistance and Its Role in One Health, and has over $15 million in research funds from national and international funding agencies.

Heinz-Peter Mang has more than 40 years experience in biogas systems, sanitation, sewage and faecal sludge, bioenergy power, biofuel, key-expertise ecological sanitation & waste-to-values. Studied 1975-1980 Thermal and Energy Engineering, become 1981 a German Pioneer in the design of Constructed Wetlands and Dry Biogas Fermentation plants.
1982-2011 he worked as long-term resident Biogas-, Sanitation- and Organic Product Marketing - Adviser on behalf of the German International Development Cooperation GIZ in China, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Bolivia, and Lesotho.
In parallel during the last 30 years he undertook many short term assignments for several UN-agencies, GIZ, Development Banks, private companies, and NGOs, supporting partners in Algeria, Afghanistan, Brazil, Botswana, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, DPR Korea, DR Congo, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Korean Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mali, Malawi, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Singapore, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Timor Este, Tunisia, Turkey, Venezuela, and Zambia in the development of biogas and/ or sanitation programs and projects.

Since 2016, on behalf of the German-Chinese UPM company - as partner of USTB-CSES, he guides in Jordan, Lebanon, and Bangladesh, Technical Assistance activities to Grantees of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Humanitarian Emergency Response Team.
Raúl Muñoz obtained his Master degree in Chemical Engineering at Universidad de Valladolid (UVa, Spain) in 2001. Raúl Muñoz completed his Doctoral Thesis at the Dept. of Biotechnology of Lund University in June 2005. He joined the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at UVa in Nov 2005, which represented the consolidation of the biological gas treatment and microalgae-based wastewater treatment research lines at UVa.
In 2009, he carried out a 3-month research stay at UNSW (Australia) at the laboratory of Prof. Richard Stuetz, In 2013 and 2016, Raúl Muñoz also conducted 6 and 3-month research stays, respectively, at the Laboratory of Dr. Sergio Revah (UAM-Cuajimalpa, México), and in 2014 a 3-month research stay at Universidad de la Frontera (Chile). Today, Raúl Muñoz is Associate professor at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology of Valladolid University and member of the Institute of Sustainable Processes.
Raúl has published 194 papers in JCR scientific journals, 79 % of them within the Q1 of the JCR classification, and has co-authored 25 International Book Chapters. His publications have been cited 6396 times, with an H index of 45. He has supervised 17 PhD Thesis and 22 Master Thesis.
Finally, he has been Principal Investigator in 35 R&D projects and contracts, with a total budget of 5.485.894 € over the past 10 years.
He was member of the scientific committee of 36 international conferences, project evaluator in 10 countries.
Michael Nelles is an environmental engineer and studied Technical Environmental Protection (Technical University of Berlin). From 1994 to 1999 he was the Vice Director of the Department Waste Management of the Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria. From 2000 to 2006 he was Professor of Environmental Engineering of the University of Applied Science in Göttingen (Germany). Since 2006 he is full professor of Waste and Resource Management of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the University of Rostock, Germany. Since 2012 Prof. Nelles is also the Scientific Director of the German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ) in Leipzig.
His research activity is based on: fundamental and applied aspects of waste management with focus on technological, environmental and economic aspects to mechanical, biological and thermal treatment systems of waste and biomass in different recycling and recovery routes.
He is a member of national and international Advisory Boards of organisations in the field of waste management and biomass utilisation and also a Board-Member of different national and international conferences and journals. He is author of over 400 articles and chapters in books and journals since 1994. His international activities focus on the Asian Region and in particular on China (Guest Professor in Beijing, Hefei, Shanghai & Shenyang; National Friendship Award 2011).
Hans Oechsner is an agricultural Engineer. In the years 1987 to 1990 he worked on his doctorate about inactivation of pathogenic organisms in liquid manure by biological aerobic thermophilic processes. Since 1990, he is scientist at the State Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioenergy at the University of Hohenheim. Since 2004, he is director of this research and consulting institute, which is very well networked with agricultural practice.
Besides, he is adjunct professor of the China Agricultural University, Beijing – National Center for International Research of BioEnergy Science and Technology and member of different Scientific Committees of national and international Congresses (f.e. VDI, IBBK, FNR, KTBL, Biogas Association, Renergie), head of the KTBL working community “Energy”, member of scientific working groups, Business manager of the “Consortium for Agricultural Engineering and Agrarian Construction Engineering ALB-Baden-Württemberg”. Guest Editor for different Special Issues.
Hans Oechsner has published 63 scientific papers in JCR scientific journals and a few book chepters. He has published hundreds of consulting papers and application-oriented contributions for farmers and operators of biogas plants. Furthermore he gave hundreds of lectures at training events.
He mainly works on research in the field of biogas production and questions of bioeconomy. In addition to biochemical measuring laboratories, his research equipment includes laboratory biogas fermenters for batch and continuous operation, pilot plants and a research biogas plant on a full scale, equipped with excellent measuring technology. He leads a number of national and international interdisciplinary research projects.
Professor Ashok Pandey is currently Distinguished Scientist at the Centre for Innovation and Translational Research, CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India. His major research and technological development interests are industrial & environmental biotechnology and energy biosciences, focusing on biomass to biofuels & chemicals, waste to wealth & energy, etc. He has 16 patents, 120 books, >1000 papers and book chapters, etc with h index of 138 and >80,000 citations (Goggle scholar). Mark Paterson has started his occupational activity as Sewage Engineering Technician in 1996 followed by his international environmental engineering studies at the University of Applied Science Bremen (Germany) and Massey University (New Zealand).
At the beginning of 2006, he completed his studies with a diploma thesis about the “Potential and economic analysis of the agricultural dry fermentation in comparison to wet fermentation in Germany” at the Leipzig Institute for Energy, now German Biomass Research Centre (Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gGmbH), successfully.
From beginning 2006 till end 2010, he was employed at the Federal Agency for Renewable Resources (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. - FNR), the project executive organisation of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, as bioenergy consultant in charge of the biogas advisory.
Since 2011, Mark Paterson is working for the Association for Technology and Structures in Agriculture (Kuratorium für Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft e.V. - KTBL), in the Team Energy, Emissions and Climate Change, mainly in the topic biogas. As scientific assistant he is responsible among other for projects like biogas proficiency test, the working group "aspects of sustainable operation of biogas plants" and the conference series "Biogas in Agriculture - Status and Prospects" of KTBL&FNR.
Kristy is a Senior consultant on renewable energy production, waste & wastewater management, sustainable education, and circular economy with over 15 years of experience in Mexican, German and Scandinavian companies.
As a Mexican-German Environmental Engineer with a multicultural and transdisciplinary touch, Kristy promotes and develops techno-social innovation solutions to revalorize organic waste for producing renewable energy under circular economy principles for the Latin-American and Caribbean region. This is currently possible as Founder and Business Developer at KFG EnviroSMART Solution. She is currently developing a Biomethane Mega Project for a client in Spain.
She also collaborates as co-founder and President of Hessen Chapter in Germany with the Civil Association “Global Mx Network (RGMX)”, a Mexican entity that contributes to the insertion of Mexico in the global knowledge economy. Her specific task at the RGMX-EUROPE include promoting women's empowerment programs such as “Women in STEAM-RGMX”.
As a formal PhD student, she developed her research and teaching skills as research assistant at University of Stuttgart. Kristy is graduated from UPIBI-IPN (Mexico) with a Bachelor´s degree in Environmental Engineering. She received her doctoral degree in 2014 from University of Stuttgart (Germany) where her primary research area focused on environmental technology transfer between Norway and Mexico and LCA assessment of waste management in Mexico.
Dr. Joachim Pertagnol studied agriculture at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and finished this with his master's degree in 2009. From 2010 to 2013 he wrote his PHD at the University of Hohenheim. The theme was “air conditioning systems for pighouses”. In the year 2014 he worked for the company Gillig und Keller, which builds pig and cow houses, and was responsible for Bavaria and Switzerland as a consultant.. At 2015 he is working for IZES as a specialist for agriculture, agricultural markets and bioenergy. Since 2019, Mr Pertagnol has also been involved in various agri-PV projects. In addition, he conducts practical studies on farms.

He is developing processes to convert wastes and residuals to value added products with focus on pretreatment and fermentation.
